Impact Wrenches
Parts of an Electric Impact Wrench
An electric impact wrench is a powerful tool that is useful for many purposes. Though the word wrench means to twist, an electric impact wrench doesn’t actually twist off nuts, bolts, and screws. Instead, the force or the impact of the wrench causes the nuts, bolts, or screws to jiggle from side to side and then slide off. When choosing an electric impact wrench you’ll find that the wrench comes with several different sockets measuring different widths. It’s always important to use the correct sized socket for the project at hand.
At the front of the impact wrench you’ll see the impact driving anvil and the socket retainer. The anvils or sockets range in widths typically between three eights of an inch to one inch. It’s important to always test the wrench to determine the direction of the anvil before using it. The end of the wrench has a reversing ring, and located on the handle is an on and off trigger type switch. If you want to switch the direction of the wrench, you’ll find that the process is simple and easy.
Simply press the on and off trigger button to determine the direction that the wrench is moving. Once you’ve determined that you need to reverse the direction turn off the wrench and then adjust the reversing ring at the back of the wrench. Once you start the wrench again, you’ll find that the direction has been changed.
In addition to the anvil, on and off switch, and reversing ring, you’ll find that there are several more parts or components to your wrench. It contains a flexible, durable power cord. You should always check the condition of the power cord before operating to ensure the best use. There are also three housing components on it as well. These are the motor housing, the gear housing, and the clutch housing. Always use your electric impact wrenches according to the manuals and instructions that were included with your wrench.
